2005 AIDS CAMPAIGN AT AGONA SWEDRU

PROPOSED AIDS PROJECT FOR THE YEAR 2005

Although the level of HIV/AIDS is quite appreciable, research has shown that personal risk perception of disease is low. 58% of adults age between 15-49 in the country do not perceive themselves at risk of contracting virus.

In the rural communities some perceive that HIV/AIDS is only a city disease for the social elite. They back this believe that its first came from people who returned from abroad or as a curse from the gods This brings to lights some existing gap in HIV/AIDS awareness. One approach or slogan "IF ITS NOT ON ITS NO IN" cannot reach the populace. There is a demand for group like PYWC and some stata of society to be attended to in themselves.

It also means that more emphasis needs to be placed on the active participation of groups like PYWC in the prevention of HIV/AIDS. Thus the involvement of PYWC in a joint to raise the awareness and further will correct the superficial knowledge of HIV/AIDS being a curse from the gods as known by the rural folks.

GOAL AND OBJECTIVES

The long-term goal of the project is to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS completely in these communities. In the short-term, the project shall help the community to be properly informed about the epidemic so as be able to assess accurately the factors that put them personally or the community at risk of infection and act so as to reduce it. There will also be enough education to reduce stigmatization, discrimination, and isolation of persons living with HIV/AIDS and their families. PYWC will offer counseling aimed at improvement in sexual life style to other members of the extended family and friends. Reference can be made from a recent documentary on HIV/AIDS which was telecast on T.V 3 Network on the work of ADRA where the family of an AIDS Patient had earlier being rejected by the family.

This project will take place at Agona Swedru,Central Region in the Month of December at Agona Swedru.Registeration of Volunteers is in progressive.Join us fight against this epidemic.
